
Border Patrol Agent David Christopher Maland - United States Dept of Homeland Security

On January 20, 2025, Minnesota native Border Patrol Agent David Christopher Maland was shot and killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop. The traffic stopped occurred near Interstate 91 near Newport, Vermont, near the Canadian border at approximately 3:15 p.m.
One of the suspects was shot and killed, and the second suspect was injured and taken into federal custody. At the time of the traffic stop, there was no way for Agent Maland to know that the occupants were tied to a series of violent crimes going back years and stretching across the country. The suspects have been linked to a Zizians, a cultlike extremist group.
Agent Maland was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the United States Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection - United States Border Patrol for over nine years. He was assigned to the Swanton Sector. He is survived by his mother, father, brother, and girlfriend.
